Osteopathy PDF Print E-mail

Osteopathy is a manual therapy treatment that uses a range of safe manipulative techniques to allow the body to recognise areas of discomfort and become a coherent working unit again, thus healing itself. As well as normal injuries through specific trauma, every day living can create changes in the way the body holds itself or the way it sits, stands or walks etc. Over time, this can result in aches and pains, which can come on gradually or very suddenly and sometimes appear to have no reason for arriving in the first place!

An osteopath uses anything from ryhthmical oscillation and stretching, to articulation and adjustment to manually highlight imbalances in the body, thus helping the central nervous system to be aware of them and thus attempt to correct them.

Osteopathy can help with relieving the symptons of:

  • "Sciatica"
  • Back and Neck pain
  • General joint arthritis including shoulder, hip, knee, elbow and other peripheral joints
  • "Trapped nerve"
  • Disc problems
  • Muscle and ligament sprains or strains
  • Headaches
  • Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)
  • Irritable bowels
  • Asthma
  • And many more...

Initial consultation can be anywhere between 30 minutes and 1 hour, during which a history is taken and some active and passive examinations are carried out to assess the problem/s.

Follow up treatment is approximately 30 minutes.
